Synthetic albumin, derived from plasma fractionation, normalizes plasma protein levels. It’s used in treating brain injuries, ascites, nephritis, hemolytic disease, gastrointestinal ulcers, blood transfusions, and hemodialysis.
How the Albumin Blood Test Is Performed
Performed in the morning on an empty stomach, it involves venous blood collection. The last meal should be 8 hours prior. The biuret (or micro-biuret) method is commonly used.
The drug form is administered intramuscularly or intravenously via drip.
Hormonal drugs, steroids, and medications for chronic or inflammatory conditions may affect results.
