Ptosis correction. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
There is a physiological norm, according to which in a healthy state the upper eyelid does not cover the iris of the eye more than one and a half millimeters. And if it drops lower, it can interfere with visual function, negatively affect a person's appearance and eye health. This correction is especially indicated for children, whose visual system is especially sensitive to external conditions. As a result of ptosis, a child may develop strabismus. Ptosis itself can be a congenital and hereditary defect, then it affects one eye. Acquired ptosis most often affects both eyes of the patient. It can occur for the following reasons:
- problems with the muscles of the upper eyelid, their weakness or stretching;
- neurological problems;
- getting a foreign body into the eye;
- with excess skin folds on the upper eyelid, so-called false ptosis is observed.
This type of surgical intervention has not only an aesthetic need, but also has an important therapeutic and preventive effect. The fact is that if something interferes with the normal functioning of the visual system, over time it will begin to perform its functions worse and worse. Therefore, it is not recommended to delay ptosis correction.
Procedure
Preparation
About two weeks before the operation, the patient should stop drinking alcohol and refrain from visiting a solarium, as well as not sunbathing naturally. The patient should undergo a number of diagnostic procedures, for example, take a blood test, consult an ophthalmologist. It is also necessary to choose what kind of anesthesia to use, general or local.
Ptosis correction procedure
Ptosis correction surgery lasts from half an hour to an hour, although in complex forms of the disease it can last longer. The surgeon makes an incision in the orbital septum, lifts the upper eyelid, shortens and attaches the muscles that hold it to a new place.
There are many different techniques for performing this operation. The doctor selects the procedure individually depending on the individual characteristics of the patient's body and his case of the disease.
Rehabilitation period
The patient must wear an antiseptic bandage on the eyes for several hours. Most often, the stitches after the procedure are removed after five days. The scar is almost invisible, since special threads are used to stitch the edges of the wound.
Swelling goes away about a week after the operation. At first, you should avoid increased strain on the eyes. You cannot use contact lenses for two weeks.
