Cantoplasty is a surgical procedure related to plastic surgery, and is designed to correct the shape of the eye slit by acting on the outer or inner corners of the eyes.

General information

The expressiveness of the eyes, their shape and size are perhaps the main criterion of attractiveness. The size of the eyeball itself is approximately the same in all people, and it is the shape of the eye slit that affects the beauty of the eyes. Most often, this procedure is performed on the outer corner of the eye, the so-called lateral type, while internal canthoplasty, that is, the medial type of surgery, is most often performed only if the patient has scars or individual characteristics, for example, with particularly pronounced folds.

Procedure

Preparation

Since the surgical intervention occurs in close proximity to the patient's eyes, it is necessary to consult an ophthalmologist. You also need to discuss the details of the operation with the plastic surgeon and take a number of tests, for example, a blood test.

Canthoplasty procedure

The operation can be performed either under general or local anesthesia. In the case of general anesthesia, the patient must be under the supervision of an anesthesiologist-resuscitator. The plastic surgeon makes a small incision, approximately one centimeter long. This incision is hidden in the natural fold of the upper eyelid. Through it, the doctor gains access to the canthus, which the surgeon separates, moves to a new place and fixes in the desired position. Excess skin is excised. After this, stitches and a sterile bandage are applied.

This operation corrects the shape of the eyelids, making them fit more tightly to the eyeball.

Rehabilitation period

The patient must be under the supervision of doctors for the next day, sometimes two. In this case, bruises and hematomas appear at the site of the operation. Only after two weeks will the preliminary results of the operation become clear.

You need to give your eyes rest: you can't strain them, watch TV or work on the computer.

Indications and contraindications

There are both aesthetic and medical indications for this procedure. These include:

  • eversion of the eyelid;
  • congenital defect of the eyelid structure;
  • desire to correct the shape of the palpebral fissure;
  • weakness of the lower eyelid muscles;
  • age-related changes.

Contraindications

Contraindications for canthoplasty include:

  • myopia;
  • increased pressure of intraocular fluid;
  • high blood pressure;
  • poor blood clotting;
  • diabetes mellitus;
  • endocrine system diseases;
  • heart disease and vessels;
  • oncology.

Complications

Complications after surgery include:

  • dry eyes;
  • infection;
  • the appearance of seals in the place where the incision was made.

Most complications are corrected or tolerated without much difficulty.

Prices and clinics

Cantoplasty is performed only by an experienced specialist in a specific medical institution. The price of the procedure directly depends on the place where it is performed.
