Electronystagmography. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
The method helps to determine the accuracy and speed of saccades, the state of the vestibular system. In medicine, it is classified as a non-invasive method. Moreover, such a study of the oculomotor apparatus helps to detect the structural features of the facial skull, the position of the eyelids, the ability to open the slit and the structure of the orbits.
Also, in parallel, the eyeball is examined for shape and size, determining its displacement or recession in the craniofacial part. The session resembles oculography. Electrical biopotentials located between the posterior pole and the cornea change their natural potential when blinking.
If the analysis is carried out in time, it is possible to prevent the development of eye diseases or select an effective methodology for their elimination.
Diagnostics can be combined with an optokinetic, caloric or rotational test. It can also be used to determine the functionality of the horizontal semicircular canal.
Procedure
Preparation
First, the doctor studies the patient's medical history and sends them for tests. Standard procedures include measuring blood pressure, taking an X-ray, and performing a visual examination.
Electronystagmography procedure
The patient should be sitting on a special rotating chair. The head should be directed strictly forward. The device is lowered in front of him to a distance of 60 cm from the eyes. Then, electrodes are firmly fixed to the skin near the inner and outer edges of the eye socket. After this, the patient begins to look to the left to create a negative charge on the right electrode in combination with a positive charge on the left.
Changes in biopotentials are immediately recorded by the tape. The recording is carried out in two modes: binocularly and monocularly.
Depending on the reasons for the procedure, the doctor can take three samples to determine:
- central or non-labyrinthine type of disease, when the apples follow a moving object, taking into account variations in the position of the cervical-cephalic region or its immobility;
- positional vertigo (due to nystagmus);
- labyrinthine reaction in order to identify ear pathologies.
Rehabilitation period
For 10-15 minutes, you cannot go outside in cold weather.
For treatment, drugs with potent or hypnotic components, as well as medications that sharpen vision and hearing, can be prescribed. Antibiotic therapy is used for nerve tumors and enhanced nutrition with nootropics.
Indications and contraindications
It is typical for finding the cause or deviations in the work of:
- cerebral (with dizziness, spasms, intracranial pressure), ear-nasal and visual departments;
- neuro-vestibular cavities.
Also, the use of the technique is mandatory for nystagmus, oscillopsia, nausea, neuromas, as well as when monitoring muscle tone.
Contraindications
The technique is prohibited for those who have been diagnosed with:
- hypersensitivity to blinking artifact;
- high electrical activity of muscles;
- unacceptability of noise effect during recording.
It is not advisable to use therapy if torsion recording is necessary.
Complications
There are no serious complications. Sometimes increased eye fatigue and increased sensitivity to light are observed.
Who conducts it and where?
The methodology is performed by a professional otolaryngologist in a clinic or otolaryngology center. You can find out the cost of the service on the portal .
