MRI of the shoulder joint: features of the procedure
The principle of magnetic resonance imaging is to create an electromagnetic field that causes resonance in hydrogen protons. The response of the particles is captured by the device and is contrast visualized in the form of flat projections (sections) in the angle required by the specialist.
Indications for diagnostics
The study is prescribed for impaired hand mobility and pain symptoms. The procedure is prescribed for:
- dislocations, osteoarthritis, cartilage injuries;
- pinched tendons and nerve fibers;
- rupture in the joint capsule;
- unclear pain syndrome in the shoulder
- pathological changes in the rotator cuff;
- to detect and evaluate tumor processes in the bones.
MRI of the shoulder joint: contraindications
There are a number of factors in the presence of which it is worth refusing MRI:
- the presence of ferromagnetic, metal implants, cardiac muscle pacemakers, foreign metal objects in the body, fragments.
- the introduction of a special contrast agent is not recommended during lactation and pregnancy, kidney disease, diabetes during decompensation.
Preparation for the procedure
The patient must wear underwear made of natural fabric for the examination, remove all metal accessories. Women are not recommended to use cosmetics. If there are tattoos that may contain metal particles, you must first consult a doctor. In the case of acute pain that does not allow you to remain motionless throughout the entire examination, sedatives are administered.
