The tomograph is based on the magnetic resonance of protons in the cellular structure. When exposed to electromagnetic waves, the particles resonate, allowing the device to record the resulting image in high contrast. Visualization is a set of two-dimensional projections (sections), having studied which the doctor can draw conclusions about the presence of pathological changes.
MRI of the brain vessels: indications
The procedure is carried out to analyze the success of surgical intervention, study the degree of organ damage after strokes and heart attacks. Magnetic resonance imaging is indicated for:
- skull injuries;
- distraction of consciousness, feeling of weakness, dizziness, headaches;
- risk of tumor metastasis;
- pathological changes in nervous tissue;
- memory problems, spatial orientation disorders, inability to identify a person.
Contraindications to magnetic resonance imaging of the brain
- the presence of any ferromagnetic implants, stimulators, vascular clips, auditory implants;
- pituitary gland diseases or heart failure;
- pregnancy at low terms.
Features of preparation before the study
Women need to remove makeup before doing an MRI of the brain, all metal objects and jewelry must be removed. In cases where a contrast agent is used, it is necessary to exclude food and liquid intake 5 hours before the diagnosis. The MRI diagnostic specialist must be warned about the presence of chronic diseases, allergies to drugs and claustrophobia (if the patient suffers from a phobia of confined spaces).
