CT scan of the hip joint is an informative type of examination that allows diagnosing disorders in the functionality of this area, the presence of traumatic injuries and the development of inflammatory and destructive processes. Diagnostics are prescribed by a traumatologist-orthopedist, surgeon, rheumatologist or therapist. With the help of a tomograph, X-ray irradiation occurs by scanning layer-by-layer sections. As a result, the specialist receives images in several projections, which makes it possible to diagnose the problem as accurately as possible.

MRI or CT of the hip joints?

The only similarity between these methods is that diagnostics are performed by layer-by-layer scanning. And that's it - these diagnostics diverge on this path, since the goals and symptoms of the studies are different. With the help of MRI (the effect of a strong magnetic field), it is possible to examine soft tissues and the vascular network of blood supply in detail, but the skeletal system is poorly visualized. With the use of CT (X-ray irradiation), the skeletal system and joint structure are well displayed. There are cases when, for certain diseases, both CT and MRI of the area being examined may be prescribed to display a complete picture and exclusively diagnose the disease.
