The main cause of varicose veins is the congenital weakness of the veins, their lower degree of elasticity and resistance. The occurrence of varicose veins is provoked by some diseases, and can also occur on its own. An experienced phlebologist diagnoses this disease, both based on symptoms and by conducting additional diagnostics to identify possible concomitant problems, such as heart failure. Moreover, varicose veins can have a very different character, not necessarily affecting the appearance of, for example, the legs. The same varicocele is a deformation of the vein in the spermatic cord.

Varicose veins mainly affect those vessels that are somehow located either in particularly mobile parts of the body, or can be compressed or damaged quite often in simple life circumstances.

Treatment of varicose veins - basic methods

In addition to the external manifestation of varicose veins, there are other, more unpleasant symptoms, including inflammation of the veins and pain in the legs. It is these unpleasant consequences of this disease that are the main indications for surgical manipulation aimed at combating varicose veins. It is not recommended to perform surgery in the absence of more serious symptoms than cosmetic ones. In such cases, the following treatment is prescribed:

  • special medications are prescribed, sometimes antibiotics;
  • physiotherapy procedures are performed;
  • physical exercise helps;
  • an elastic bandage is worn.

However, all these therapeutic methods of treatment are designed only to stabilize the rhythm of the disease. It can only be cured by surgery.

There are many methods of performing surgical procedures that differ in the degree of invasiveness, the method of implementation. Each is prescribed to the patient depending on his characteristics in order to minimize the risk of certain complications.

In particular, it is worth mentioning the classic operation - phlebectomy, which is the removal of varicose veins in the venous system by an experienced surgeon during the operation. This is the most invasive method, but also the least specific, requiring a long rehabilitation period, but acting rather mechanically.

Modern methods of surgical intervention for varicose veins

There are other, more technologically advanced, but with their own specifics, and therefore not suitable for everyone, methods of treating varicose veins.

First of all, we should dwell on two types of coagulation - laser and radiofrequency. Depending on the technology, the surgeon affects the veins either with a concentrated heat beam or powerful ultrasound. Both types are designed to destroy reflux, that is, the cause of vein deformation. As a rule, it is carried out on the lower extremities, does not require hospitalization or general anesthesia.

The third method is the so-called sclerotherapy. It includes the process of gluing the affected veins from the inside by introducing special drugs. In this case, the emphasis is on healthy veins, and the diseased ones simply stop functioning. Despite the unusual nature of this method, it is already quite old and began to be used more than a century and a half ago. The procedure itself is safe and almost painless, it is carried out quite quickly and the patient does not need to be hospitalized.

The surgical procedure, namely sclerotherapy, is a delicate work with the venous system, which requires extensive experience of the surgeon, precise knowledge of the course of the disease and great skill.

Such an abundance of surgical intervention options for varicose veins is due to the fact that, contrary to popular belief, varicose veins are a disease for which surgery is necessary for effective treatment. You cannot get by with concomitant therapy for too long, since it is only an addition to treatment. And a competent choice of the type of operation, taking into account the characteristics of the patient's body, will allow you to quickly cope with the disease at an early stage with a minimal risk of relapse.

Consult with phlebologists on the disease, its detection and treatment.
