Most women are used to wearing impressive heels in everyday life. They are ready to tolerate discomfort and fatigue in their legs for the sake of an impressive gait and extra centimeters in height. However, the consequences of such an embodiment of beauty can be much worse than supporters of stilettos imagine.
According to qualified orthopedists, the optimal heel height of a shoe is from 2 to 5 centimeters. The elegance and grace supposedly acquired thanks to stilettos are not characteristic of the anatomical structure of a person. In other words, the position of the foot when wearing heels is contrary to our nature. Regular wearing of such shoes threatens:
- dystrophy of bone tissue and articular cartilage (osteochondrosis), inflammatory processes in the pelvic area and in the intestines. The body's center of gravity shifts forward, and the back bends backward to maintain balance, which causes curvature of the spine and changes in the arrangement of internal organs;
- muscle deformation, circulatory disorders (varicose veins, thrombophlebitis), edema, and arthritis. The higher the heel, the more the forefoot is subject to stress, and the heel simply atrophies, as it remains unused. Due to their addiction to stiletto heels, women suffer from flat feet 10 times more often than men. The latter, as a rule, wear shoes with a heel no higher than 2 cm. This disease should not be considered insignificant, since its consequences disrupt the usual rhythm of life: swelling and bumps on the feet appear, which make movement difficult;
- interrupted pregnancy and infertility. Wearing high heels leads to muscle strain and disruption of the blood supply to the pelvic organs. Pregnant women who continue to wear dangerous shoes in the name of beauty even at later stages may face an incorrect position of the fetus, stretch marks on the abdomen and even miscarriages. The load on the legs is already excessive during pregnancy, and heels increase it several times;
- injuries. Ardent fans of high heels are subject to frequent dislocations, sprains, bruises and even fractures. The unstable position in such shoes makes it difficult to move, sometimes preventing balance.
There are precedents when enterprising ladies in Great Britain, injured due to wearing shoes with very high heels, sued shoe manufacturers for considerable sums.
In pursuit of beauty, women stop at nothing. Uncomfortable and tight shoes, equipped with a heel, are not an obstacle for them. Such a frivolous attitude to one's health, at a minimum, provokes curvature of the toes and deformation of the nails. The risk of fungal diseases increases.
Doctors do not recommend teenage girls to wear shoes with heels higher than 5 cm, since the body is still in the development stage.
Recent studies by scientists have found that an addiction to such fashion trends can cause problems with the brain, the appearance of cellulite and a decrease in sexual potential.
Advice for fans of high heels
If you do not agree to give up your "friendship" with risky shoes, then you should follow at least a few rules for wearing stilettos.
- Thin, sharp stilettos should be replaced with wide and stable ones to more evenly distribute the load on the foot.
- Replace regular wearing of heels with occasional wearing. Alternate shoes with ballet flats.
- Your feet need a massage. Let your lower limbs rest after a working day by placing them on an elevation.
- Women who spend most of the day on their feet should not overuse high heels and have comfortable shoes to change into.
- You should not switch to low shoes abruptly, since the atrophied joints after wearing heels for a long time must adapt to the new loads.
- High heels are contraindicated for those who are predisposed to varicose veins, thrombophlebitis and arthritis of the lower limbs.
- The insole should have a preventive arch support. It prevents flat feet and promotes a more even distribution of weight.
Before paying tribute to fashion, think about your health, compare all the pros and cons of high-heeled shoes. Frequent parading in high heels can result in endless treatment for certain diseases.
