All types of dentures create favorable conditions for increased growth of microbes. The fact is that a small pocket is formed between the artificial teeth and the gum, where pieces of food, waste products of bacteria, and dead epithelial particles are retained. And if you skip hygiene procedures, the risk of developing such dental problems increases:
- halitosis - bad breath;
- stomatitis, formed from ulcers from friction of dentures;
- gingivitis, turning into periodontitis;
- surface dullness due to tobacco and food colorings.
Care of removable dentures
Removable structures are easy to care for, because they can be removed and all necessary manipulations can be performed efficiently. Dentists recommend rinsing dentures under running water after each meal. For this, boiled water should be used, as it does not contain pathogenic types of bacteria.
Twice a day, removable teeth need mechanical cleaning. A special brush is a curved plastic handle with double-sided bristles. One side with zigzag hard hairs is designed to clean the outer surface of the structure, and the second, soft and rounded, is for treating internal areas.
The surface of nylon dentures is perfectly smooth, and any micro-scratch spoils the appearance and accumulates bacteria, which cause an unpleasant odor. Therefore, you should buy special soft toothbrushes and pastes with non-aggressive components.
Acrylic structures are extremely fragile. They should be washed with special care over a sink filled with water or covered with a towel.
An ultrasonic bath is a good assistant in cleaning dentures. This is a device in the form of a container filled with liquid, through which waves are passed, forming many tiny vacuum bubbles. They penetrate all pores, cracks, scratches and break down particles of dirt, dyes, food, and also kill germs without damaging the surface of the structure.
Another option is chemical solutions. In the pharmacy, you can buy a ready-made liquid or quick-dissolving tablets, on the basis of which it is prepared. After soaking, the denture is cleaned, disinfected and acquires a fresh smell. The solutions contain active oxygen for bleaching, silicone polymer for the formation of a protective film and elements that prevent corrosion of metal parts of the structure.
After processing, the denture is fixed in the oral cavity using the following means:
- powder sprayed onto the product;
- strips of special canvas;
- fixation cream.
Many people are sure that at night the denture should be immersed in a glass of water. The fact is that earlier it was made of rubber, which, indeed, cracked when exposed to air. Modern materials do not require moistening. Therefore, during sleep, they can be stored in a special container or not removed at all.
Care of fixed dentures
Bridges, crowns, implants cannot be removed independently. Therefore, caring for them is more labor-intensive. Teeth are cleaned with a brush-brush in sweeping movements from the gum to the cutting edge of the tooth.
Immediately after this, floss should be used to remove food debris from the interdental space, with the exception of places in contact with the denture. Don't worry if you notice slight bleeding at first. Your gums will soon get used to such manipulations. A good alternative to floss is an irrigator - a device for cleaning the oral cavity with a stream of water. In addition to gentle and high-quality cleaning, this device acts as a massager for the gums, which is very important for the prevention of gingivitis.
Finish the procedure by rinsing with an antiseptic liquid to remove germs and disinfect the surface of your own and artificial teeth.
Professional cleaning in the dentist's office should be carried out every six months. In addition, you should contact a specialist if you experience unpleasant sensations of rubbing or protruding structure. The doctor will perform all corrective procedures and recommend medications to relieve swelling or speed up the healing of the gums.
