The virus enters the human body through the gastrointestinal tract. The incubation period is from one day to 5 days. After this, pathogenic microbes begin to actively multiply and harm the body. There are several main ways of transmission of the disease.
- Airborne. The virus is transmitted from the carrier through sneezing, coughing. Often, particles of saliva are released during loud and active conversation.
- Food. This is the most common way. The infection penetrates through uncooked food products. Infection is also possible through unwashed vegetables, unboiled water and even swimming in public places.
- Contact-household. In rare cases, the disease is transmitted through household items. The pathogen can exist for a long time outside the host's body, is practically immune to freezing, can withstand heating up to 60 - 70 degrees Celsius, and does not die from exposure to detergents.
Most often, intestinal flu affects children and the elderly, due to weakened immunity. The problem is especially acute in crowded places. If the premises are not cleaned in a timely manner, schools, kindergartens, dormitories, and prisons become the source of the disease.
The symptoms of gastroenteritis are pronounced. But in some cases, it can proceed covertly. In this case, the person is a carrier of the infection. General manifestations of the disease include:
- weakness, malaise, fatigue;
- nausea, vomiting;
- loss of appetite and body weight;
- pain in the abdomen, throat, when swallowing;
- muscle stiffness;
- sweating, fever.
The main symptom of rotavirus infection is diarrhea. The large intestine loses the ability to retain fluid and bowel movements are disrupted. At the same time, dehydration quickly develops, and as a result, dry skin and mouth, thirst. Also, an indicator of infection is a decrease in the amount and a change in color (dark color) of urine.
Treatment of gastroenteritis does not have clear recommendations. Usually, the infection goes away on its own after 6 - 7 days. Therapy is aimed at relieving the symptoms of the disease. Patients should be in the infectious diseases department. This will help prevent the spread of influenza.
At the initial stage, the patient's diet is reduced to a minimum and drinking is increased. This normalizes the digestive system. It is recommended to drink natural juice, weak tea or fruit drinks. Medicines with astringent, adsorbent and polyenzyme effects are prescribed. In case of severe dehydration, detoxifying solutions are administered intravenously. Popular drugs are Festal, Pancreatin, Abamin, Polizim and others.
In combination with pharmacotherapy, alternative medicine recipes are used.
- Mint. The leaves of the plant are crushed, poured with 200 ml of boiling water and infused for half an hour. Take 60-70 grams per day.
- Cranberry. Due to its antiseptic properties, this berry has a suppressive effect on various microbes. To prepare the remedy, add two tablespoons of raw material to a liter of water. Boil the finished mixture over low heat for 10-15 minutes. Drink half a glass in the morning, afternoon and evening.
- Orchis. The tubers of the plant must be crushed to a jelly-like state. After that, they are added to hot milk at a dosage of 2 tubers per 150 ml, mixed and consumed as a drink, 50 grams once a day.
You can prevent an eating disorder by strictly following the rules of personal hygiene. Washing your hands with soap, paying close attention to the quality of food will reduce the likelihood of catching an infection to a minimum.
