The causes of prolapse are associated with many processes in the abdominal cavity.

  • High intra-abdominal pressure.
  • Difficulty in eliminating waste products.
  • Heavy physical labor.
  • Complications of pelvic surgery.
  • Weakening of the anus muscles.
  • Anatomical features (vertical position of the coccyx, weakness of the sphincter).

The likelihood of developing the disease is higher in people who have had neurological diseases, surgeries, childbirth.

If you notice signs of prolapse, you should consult a doctor. You should not try to put the intestine back in place yourself. This can lead to anal itching, bloody discharge, mucus from the anus.

Diagnosing the disease is not difficult. Traditionally, people consult a doctor when there are obvious manifestations of prolapse. It is enough for a proctologist to listen to the complaints and examine the patient. The main task of the doctor is to exclude other ailments with similar symptoms.

To clarify the diagnosis, a digital examination, examination of the anus in a calm and strained state, colonoscopy and rectoscopy are used.

Treatment of prolapse in childhood consists of following simple recommendations of specialized specialists. Preference is given to conservative methods.

  • A diet that includes foods high in fiber.
  • Potty training on a schedule.
  • Strengthening overall health and anal muscles.

Physiotherapy, exercise therapy, balanced nutrition, and vitamins are used. A set of exercises aimed at developing the pelvic muscles is used. This can be achieved by taking drugs that restore the intestinal mucosa (Altmagel, Maalox, Smecta) and reducing straining during bowel movements.

In special cases, the baby is not put on a potty or toilet, but is forced to defecate lying on his side. This regime will have to be followed for several months, but this will avoid surgery.

If the above procedures do not lead to a positive result, then doctors turn to sclerosing therapy. This method should be used with great caution. Surgeons have to give a lot of injections. By means of injections, sclerosing substances are introduced into the intestinal environment, causing swelling and inflammation. After the damaged cells are replaced by connective tissue, fixation occurs.

It is important to remember that any treatment of a child should be carried out only under the supervision of a proctologist. The choice of methods for restoring normal bowel function depends on the results of a comprehensive examination.

Therapy for the disease in adults is mainly not based on drug methods. Surgery is much more effective.

  • Pre-cruciate rectopexy. The essence of such an intervention is to strengthen the pelvic muscles and ligaments of the anus. This helps to avoid fecal incontinence. Access to the site of inflammation is made through an incision in the abdominal area.
  • Resection. Part of the prolapsed area is removed.
  • Plastic surgery. The most common type of exposure. The rectum is sutured to the spinal ligament. After this, the muscles and canals of the pelvic floor are affected.
  • Combined operations.

The correct approach to solving the problem will allow you to fully restore bowel function. The postoperative period is 10-12 months. During this time, you need to avoid stress and constipation, stick to a relaxing or fixing diet.
