What are the dangers of childhood caries
Everyone knows that health should be protected from a young age. But not many people understand that we owe much of our health to strong teeth. Our immunity, which provides reliable protection for the body from pathogenic microorganisms, begins with the digestive system. And it, in turn, begins with the oral cavity.
Imagine that a "caries monster" has settled in a child's mouth - the bacterium Streptococcus mutans, which spoils tooth enamel. It hurts the baby to chew, he swallows food in pieces, touches the sore spot with his hands, which are not always clean. As a result, the baby has problems with digestion and stomatitis.
In addition, pathogenic bacteria that accumulate in a carious mouth can move to the gastrointestinal tract.
If you do not start treating caries in children in a timely manner, it can develop into pulpitis, in which the inflammation goes deeper, affecting the dental nerve.
Undertreated childhood caries can affect a permanent, "adult" tooth, which has not even had time to grow in yet..p>
A child cannot always tell his parents about a toothache. Pay attention to the smell from the child's mouth. An unpleasant, rotten smell is the first sign that teeth have begun to decay.
Preventing dental caries in children
To ensure that your baby has healthy teeth, you must adhere to the following rules:
- Start taking care of your baby's health even before he or she is born. The strength of the enamel depends on the balanced diet of the expectant mother. Eat more foods containing fluoride and calcium: fish, walnuts, corn, lentils, eggs and dairy products.
- Breastfeed your baby. No formula can replace breast milk. In addition, sucking will help the jaw to form correctly.
- Dental caries in children can appear because parents who already have dental problems lick their child's spoons, plates or nipples. Give your child separate dishes, let no one else use them.
- Don't give your child candy until he or she is 4-5 years old. Sweets are not only bad for teeth, but also spoil their appetite, which, frankly, children are not very fond of.
- Sometimes especially spoiled children demand that all the food they are offered be sweet. The baby refuses to drink water, and demands only juice. This causes problems with stool, and, as a result, the immune system weakens. Juice and tea will not replace pure mineral water. We do not consist of 80% tea, do we?
- Proper nutrition is 50% of health. The baby's diet should include calcium, fluorine, iron and vitamins. Give up semi-finished products. To prevent your child from becoming addicted to sausages or store-bought dumplings, do not let him or her try them. Flavor enhancers will make anything look like candy, but they certainly won't add to your health.
- Calcium and fluoride will go to waste if your body doesn't have enough vitamin D. It's what helps these microelements get into the metabolism. Vitamin D is produced in the human body under the influence of the sun's rays. Take more walks with your child on summer days, sunbathe, and then your teeth will be stronger.
- Naturally, don't forget about hygiene: choose a good toothpaste and brush for your child. Choose toothpaste according to age, pay attention to the markings: from 0 to 3 years, from 3 to 7 years.
- Be sure to be present when brushing teeth: there is a risk that the baby will swallow tasty toothpaste and ruin his stomach.
- Do not wait until all the teeth have cut through to accustom the baby to hygiene. One tooth has grown - brush one.
- To avoid dental caries in children, let the baby go to the dentist twice a year. Choose a friendly pediatrician that the baby would not be afraid to go to.
- Fissure sealing is a popular, effective and painless procedure that is an excellent prevention of caries. Most often, bacteria multiply in the grooves on the chewing side of the tooth. By removing these depressions, the doctor does not leave the bacteria a chance.
If the child has a toothache, do not use compresses with alcohol under any circumstances. This old-fashioned method may relieve the pain, but it will also poison the baby's body. Apply a special dental gel to the sore tooth and take your baby to the doctor.
If your baby is teething, wrap a piece of chilled fruit, such as a peach, in clean gauze and place it on the sore spot.
Keep an eye on your baby, take him for walks in the fresh air more often, feed him healthy and wholesome food, do not tempt him with sweets and consult a doctor in a timely manner. The health of your child depends entirely on you.
