TBG (Thyroxine-Binding Globulin). Prices, Reviews, Ratings
Thyroxine-binding globulin – the primary blood plasma protein binding thyroxine.
Thyroxine-binding globulin – the primary blood plasma protein binding thyroxine.
General Information
Testing assesses T3 and T4 density changes in early thyroid diseases and thyroxine-binding globulin fluctuations.
Free and bound T4 are normally balanced. Elevated free T4 can be corrected by increasing total T4. High total T4 indicates thyroid dysfunction or binding protein variations; free T4 reflects the patient’s thyroid status.
Total T4 may rise with oral contraceptives, pregnancy, or estrogen therapy.
Changes in thyroxine-binding globulin levels may signal poor thyroid function.
Indications for TBG Testing
Testing is indicated:
- If total T4 density is elevated;
- For diagnosing endocrine disorders in pregnancy;
- For thyroid pathology diagnosis in women on oral contraceptives.
How Is the TBG Test Conducted?
A specialist draws venous blood fasting. Limit fatty/fried foods and alcohol 24 hours prior; physical exertion is contraindicated.
Completion Time for TBG Testing
Results are ready the next day.
