What does a comprehensive MRI for women show?

With the help of MRI, you can examine the condition of internal organs, soft and even bone tissues of the body for congenital or acquired pathologies. In this case, the results of the scan will be available literally an hour after its completion, and the process itself allows you to identify any abnormalities that are simply impossible to diagnose by other methods.

For example, MRI of the pelvic organs in women reveals all problems with the urinary and reproductive systems, lymph nodes, vascular and bone structure. Such an examination reveals not only neoplasms, but also pathologies of the fallopian tubes, inflammatory processes or focal infections.

MRI of the thyroid gland allows you to identify even minor changes in the structure of this organ. Unlike ultrasound, which shows neoplasms from 1.2 centimeters in diameter, MRI allows you to consider the presence of even millimeter pathologies, recording benign and malignant tumors at very early stages. Of course, such accuracy will affect the prospects for treating oncological problems in the most favorable way.

MRI of the mammary glands with and without contrast allows you to localize seals in tissues, distinguish between benign and oncological tumors, assess the condition of the vessels and lymphatic system. Therefore, for women over 25 years old, MRI of the mammary glands is a desirable procedure, which any gynecologist or mammologist will insist on.

Indications and contraindications

MRI of the pelvis in women is prescribed, and without fail, when diagnosing suspected neoplasms, vaginal bleeding and complaints of severe pain in this area. In addition, this diagnostic technique is considered as recommended for infertility, traumatic changes in tissues, suspicions of inflammation and space-occupying lesions during pregnancy.

Thyroid MRI with or without contrast is prescribed when structural pathologies in the organ are detected during palpation, in the case of suspected displacement or after uncontrolled weight gain. This technique may be prescribed when hormonal imbalance is suspected (the patient may complain of frequent mood swings, insomnia and a feeling of apathy).

Mammary gland MRI is done in case of suspected oncological or benign neoplasms, as a postoperative examination measure or as a diagnostic technique before surgery. This method is also practiced when studying the consequences of breast trauma, especially if it was corrected using silicone implants. In addition, breast MRI is a mandatory procedure after chemotherapy.

The following circumstances are contraindications to magnetic resonance imaging:

  • heart, kidney and liver failure in the patient;
  • alcohol or drug intoxication of the woman being examined;
  • the presence of ferroalloys in the body that react to a magnetic field, and these can be either fragments or prostheses, implants, hardware stimulators or tattoo elements;
  • mental disorders;
  • pronounced tremor or pain syndrome that prevents the body from remaining still.
  • pregnancy, in which MRI is contraindicated in the first and last trimesters.

In acute claustrophobia and If the patient weighs more than 120 kilograms, she may be prescribed an MRI, but only on an open device. In cases of allergy to the contrast agent administered during a contrast examination, the patient may only be prescribed a regular tomography.

The process of performing a comprehensive MRI

To examine a woman's health, an open or closed tomograph is required, generating a magnetic field with a power of at least 1 Tesla. Such a device will allow you to scan all organs and build a three-dimensional image of the patient's tissues and vessels. In this case, the MRI scanning process for women is always organized according to the same scheme:

  • On the day of the MRI, the patient comes to the clinic at the appointed time, hands over the referral, passport and medical card to the diagnostician, changes into disposable or her own clothes (without metal fittings), removes jewelry.
  • In a prepared state, the patient is brought to the diagnostic room and helped to settle on the tomograph table. The lab technician fixes the coils and asks the patient to lie still. If an MRI with contrast is prescribed, the patient is given an intravenous injection. This usually happens during an MRI of the mammary glands.
  • The diagnostician is in the tomograph control room. He controls the movement of the movable tabletop and the parameters of the magnetic field. By influencing the characteristics of the electromagnetic generator of the tomograph, it is possible to control the plane and depth of scanning.
  • At this time, the diagnostician studies the images, which clearly show all pathologies or functional disorders. The results of the observation are recorded in a special form, which is given to the patient.
  • After the examination is completed, the patient changes clothes and is sent for a consultation with a doctor.

If necessary, during the transfer of the results of a comprehensive MRI, a consultation is arranged for women who have undergone this examination, at which the results and identified pathologies are discussed. At the same time, the accuracy and reliability of the diagnosis depends on the tomograph itself and the qualifications of the diagnostician, so for a comprehensive MRI, you need to choose research centers with a reliable reputation, such as MRTru.

Get an MRI from professionals

The diagnostic center is equipped with a modern Philips Intera tomograph, which provides deep scanning of soft and connective tissues, joints, tendons, blood vessels and internal organs. Therefore, in addition to comprehensive MRI for women, this research center offers more than 40 types of magnetic resonance diagnostics.

MRTru specialists have more than 15 years of experience in the field of radiation diagnostics, with a mandatory requirement of 3 years of practice, so the accuracy of the diagnoses made in the center is not in doubt even among highly specialized specialists. The center employs specialists with academic degrees and active members of medical societies, so the finished report is issued within an hour.

The administration of MRTru guarantees a high level of comfort during the procedure. Only polite and sensitive staff works here, the diagnostic room is located near the metro station, and there is a private parking lot near the center.
